SQL Server 2014 vission

SQL Server 2014 adds enhancements to technologies introduced in SQL Server 2012, including updatable columnstore indexes, expanded options for AlwaysOn Availability Groups, and support for
multidimensional data model sources for Power View in SharePoint Server. However, the most significant enhancements in SQL Server 2014 are based on in-memory technologies for OLTP database workloads, including memory-optimized tables and natively compiled stored procedures.

Windows Server 2012 R2 and System Center 2012 R2 further blur the distinction between on-premises private cloud infrastructure and public cloud Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) offerings in Windows Azure, which introduces support for virtual machine hosted in Windows Azure data centers. These enhancements reflect the growing trend towards hybrid cloud environments in which IT services are distributed across on-premises and public cloud infrastructure. SQL Server Management Studio reflects this trend through support for migrating on-premises SQL Server databases to virtual machines in Windows Azure, and for backing up SQL Server databases to blob store containers in Windows Azure Storage. Additionally, a new Windows Azure HDInsight service provides a cloud-based implementation of Hadoop; the open source platform for big data analysis.
